Obverse description Central field displays the coat of arms of Somalia, featuring a heraldic shield bearing horizontal lines and a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant as dexter and sinister supporters, resting on a base of two crossed palm fronds. The legend SOMALIA REPUBLIC arcs along the upper periphery in large Latin capitals. The date 2000 is divided across the lower field flanking the supporters, and the fantasy denomination $10 appears in the exergue at the bottom.

Additional information

Somalia had no functioning central government in 2000 — the state had collapsed in 1991 and wouldn't see even a transitional federal authority until 2004. These "Somali" issues from that period were produced entirely by private minting operations, typically in Europe, exploiting the legal vacuum around the dormant national coinage franchise. The nominal issuing authority existed on paper only.
