| 裏面の説明 | Central device comprising the Portuguese coat of arms — featuring the quinas and castles — superimposed upon an armillary sphere mounted on a cross of the Order of Christ, the whole recalling Portugal's Age of Discovery symbolism. The cross arms extend to the edges of the inner field, framing the globe centrally. The encircling legend 'REPUBLICA·PORTUGUESA' arches across the upper periphery, while the date '1939' appears in the lower exergual area flanked by decorative dots. |

São Tomé and Príncipe had no domestic mint — this coin was struck in Lisbon under the Estado Novo regime, part of a broader effort by Salazar's government to modernize the coinage of Portugal's African territories in the late 1930s. The islands' economy at the time ran almost entirely on cocoa, and hard currency of any kind rarely stayed in local hands long.
KM#7 is a single-year type with no subsequent issues until after World War II, leaving this as the only silver 10 Escudos struck for the territory under colonial administration.
