Obverse description The obverse features a stylized map or geographic outline design occupying the central field, rendered in low relief against a plain brass field. The trilingual legend ESSAI - PATTERN - PROBE arcs along the upper periphery, indicating the piece's trial or pattern status in French, English, and German respectively. The date 2007 appears in the lower exergual area. The overall design is spare and utilitarian, consistent with a fantasy pattern strike.

Additional information

Montserrat's inclusion in the "Europ Ceros" pattern series was an oddity from the start — the island had no plausible path to eurozone membership, being a British Overseas Territory dependent on the Eastern Caribbean dollar. These brass patterns were produced speculatively, almost certainly by a private minting operation rather than any official monetary authority, as part of a broader batch of fantasy pieces issued under the names of territories that would never adopt a common European currency.
