| Opmerkingen |
Oflag II-C at Woldenberg held several thousand Polish officers captured during the 1939 September Campaign. The camp's internal scrip — issued by the prisoners' own self-help fund, not the German administration — formed a functioning micro-economy used to settle debts at canteen and between individuals, with denominations carefully calibrated to avoid any note having significant black-market value outside the wire.
Pichell designed and produced the series entirely within the camp. The printing was done by hand using improvised means — a remarkable feat of clandestine craft given that any unauthorized printing materials were contraband under German camp regulations.
