Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, wearing a radiating diadem and with flowing wavy hair. The engraver's signature L.BAZOR appears below the truncation, with the mint engraver's initials GB to the right. Two sailing vessels are depicted in the lower field on either side of the bust. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1964 is inscribed in the lower exergue.
