The 2000 series marked a quiet transitional moment for Surinamese currency — the country had redenominated in 1994, replacing the old Surinamese guilder at par but under a reformed central banking structure following years of monetary turbulence driven by hyperinflation in the early 1990s. By 2000, the guilder itself had only a few years left; Suriname would adopt the Surinamese dollar in 2004, retiring the entire gulden series.
Thomas De La Rue's involvement kept production quality consistent across the late gulden issues, though the security specification here is modest — watermark only, with none of the foil or thread features appearing on higher denominations of the same period.
