备注

The Nederlandsche Bank began issuing these small-denomination gulden notes in part because the public stubbornly preferred coin — particularly the silver rijksdaalder — and the bank needed an instrument that could credibly substitute for specie in everyday commerce. The "coin note" designation was not merely descriptive; it reflected a deliberate policy of pegging the note's utility to metallic value at a moment when Dutch trust in paper remained fragile after the monetary disruptions of the Napoleonic period.

The print run of over twelve million across a twenty-two year span is substantial, and attrition from heavy circulation was severe. Low-denomination notes rarely survived in quantity.
