The Grossherzoglich Luxemburgische National Bank had a brief and somewhat troubled existence — it was established in 1856 and lost its note-issuing privilege in 1873 when the International Bank of Luxembourg took over, yet notes from the earlier series continued circulating into the late 1870s. This 10 Mark piece sits in that awkward transitional window, denominated in Mark rather than Francs at a time when Luxembourg's monetary alignment was shifting between German and Belgian spheres following the 1867 Treaty of London.
Pick 19 is among the rarer survivors from this institution. Very few notes of any denomination from this bank are documented in collections today.
