| Opmerkingen |
Banco Nacional was one of several private Colombian banks of issue operating under the 1880 banking law, which allowed chartered institutions to print their own circulating notes. The American Bank Note Company held most of this business by the mid-1880s, supplying virtually every significant Latin American issuer during the period — which means the print quality here is reliably high, even if the designs across different clients can feel interchangeable to modern eyes.
Colombia's experiment with private note-issuing banks collapsed spectacularly when the government nationalized currency operations in 1886, effectively terminating Banco Nacional's right of issue. Notes of this series saw only a short circulation window.
