Opmerkingen

The Banco Nacional de Cuba was established in 1901 under the first American occupation government, and its early note issues were closely tied to U.S. monetary policy — the Cuban peso was pegged at parity with the U.S. dollar from the outset. ABNC handled the full series, as it did for most Latin American central banks of the period, working from engraved steel plates that gave the notes their characteristic fine-line detail.

The 1905 issues are notably scarce in any grade. The bank's operational lifespan was short; it was liquidated in 1921 following a catastrophic banking crisis that wiped out several Cuban institutions simultaneously, and surviving note stocks were largely called in and destroyed.
