Chile's 10 Peso coin entered circulation under Pinochet's military government, which had seized power in September 1973. The mid-1970s redenomination that produced this piece was a direct response to the catastrophic inflation inherited from — and accelerated during — the Allende years, when annual inflation had exceeded 600%. The Chicago Boys' shock therapy program brought that figure down sharply, giving the new peso enough stability to justify a circulating coinage series at all.
KM#210 is occasionally found with minor die-rotation variants across the production run.
