| Opmerkingen |
The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia was established by law in 1880 as a state bank with monopoly authority over note issuance — a direct attempt to consolidate the chaotic plural banking system that had allowed numerous private banks to circulate their own paper. The American Bank Note Company handled production for much of this series, as it did for a significant share of Latin American government paper during this period.
The note's seven-year date range reflects ongoing reissues rather than a single print run. Colombia's monetary situation through the early 1890s was complicated by political instability preceding the Thousand Days War, and notes of this bank were eventually demonetized following the 1894 banking legislation that wound down the Banco Nacional's operations entirely.
