Comments

Colombia's Banco de la República was still in its infancy when this note was produced — the bank had only been established in 1923, created in direct response to the recommendations of the Kemmerer Mission, an American economic advisory team that restructured the country's monetary system after years of fiscal disorder left over from the Thousand Days War and its inflationary aftermath.

The American Bank Note Company's involvement was a deliberate political signal as much as a practical choice — ABNC's engraved work was considered a mark of institutional seriousness in Latin American markets at the time, and the newly founded bank needed credibility quickly.
