Opmerkingen

Waldenburg — now Wałbrzych in southwestern Poland — was a coal-mining hub whose wartime labor demands outpaced the available coinage supply. Like hundreds of German municipalities, the city resorted to Notgeld to keep small transactions moving. These paper Pfennig notes were a local stopgap, not a formal banking instrument, and were never intended to survive long once Reichsbank coin supplies normalized.

Lower Silesian Notgeld from this period is well-documented in specialist literature, but individual municipal issues vary considerably in survival rates depending on how aggressively the issuing town recalled and destroyed outstanding notes after the emergency passed.
