| Opmerkingen |
The Bank of New South Wales was Australia's oldest trading bank, established in 1817, and continued issuing its own notes well into the Commonwealth period — the federal government's monopoly on note issue wasn't fully enforced until 1910–11, which is precisely the window this note occupies. High-denomination private bank notes of this period were used almost exclusively for interbank settlements and large commercial transactions, not retail circulation, which kept survival rates low.
No printer attribution has been firmly established for P#A88 in the standard references. Unattributed notes from this transitional period are not uncommon — the bank's records from the final years of private issue are incomplete.
