The Falkland Islands pound has been pegged one-to-one with sterling since 1974, which makes this note functionally interchangeable with its Bank of England equivalent for islanders — though accepted nowhere on the mainland. De La Rue's polymer substrate here follows the same transition logic seen in the Eastern Caribbean and several Pacific territories: small, remote jurisdictions switching partly to reduce replacement frequency, since low-volume circulations mean individual notes take disproportionate wear.
P#21 is among the earliest polymer issues for the territory, placing it at a technically significant moment in the series.
