South Sudan became independent in July 2011, and the Bank of South Sudan issued its first currency series almost immediately — a deliberately compressed timeline driven by political urgency rather than conventional central bank preparation. Thomas De La Rue handled the printing, as they did for much of the inaugural series, providing the security infrastructure a brand-new institution could not yet manage domestically.
The 2015–2016 dating on P#12 reflects reissue rather than redesign. The notes are physically identical to earlier printings in the series; only the date distinguishes them, and misattribution between issue years is common in dealer stock.
