Obverse description Central field bears the Coat of Arms of the State of Fujairah, flanked by two flags each inscribed with 'Al Fujairah' in Arabic — the inscription appearing in normal orientation on the left flag and mirrored on the right flag. The legend 'STATE OF FUJAIRAH' appears in Latin script, accompanied by the Arabic legend 'حُكومَة الفجَيرة' and the denomination '١٠ ريال'. The Hijri year '١٣٨٨' and the Gregorian year '1969' are present in the field. The mintage figure is stamped at lower left, with the silver fineness mark in an oval cartouche at lower right, though placement of these two elements is transposed in certain die varieties (KM#4.1 vs. KM#4.2).

Additional information

Fujairah was one of the smaller Trucial States, and in the late 1960s its ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi discovered what several other minor Gulf rulers had already learned: commemorative coin programs sold to foreign collectors could generate meaningful revenue with no circulation obligations whatsoever. The Apollo 11 issue was part of a wave of such releases timed to the July 1969 moon landing, produced almost entirely for the philatelic and numismatic export market.

Most pieces never touched Fujairah soil. Mintage controls were loose, and some issues from this program were struck in multiple batches over the 1969–1970 window listed in the reference.
