Sakha (Yakutia) has no monetary authority and cannot legally issue circulating currency — that power rests exclusively with the Central Bank of Russia. These regional "roubles" are novelty tokens produced for the souvenir and collector market, issued under the branding of the republic but carrying no legal tender status anywhere. Dozens of Russian federal subjects have done the same since the early 2000s.
Sakha is the largest federal subject in Russia by area, covering roughly one-fifth of the country's total landmass.
