These notes occupy one of the stranger moments in South Asian monetary history. Printed for East Pakistan and carrying the State Bank of Pakistan imprint, they were overprinted or issued just as the Bangladesh Liberation War was beginning to fracture the country in two. Notes of this series circulated — briefly and chaotically — in a territory that would cease to exist as part of Pakistan by December 1971.
The Pick 3A designation reflects the Bangladesh cataloging convention, which retrospectively claimed these Pakistani-issued notes as part of its own monetary sequence, since they physically circulated in what became Bangladeshi territory before any independent currency infrastructure existed.
