Tanzania's first post-Nyerere currency reform note, issued in the year the country was still heavily invested in the ujamaa collectivization program. The Bank of Tanzania had only been issuing its own currency since 1966, following the dissolution of the East African Currency Board, and the P#6 series represented a consolidated domestic identity for the shilling — printed entirely by De La Rue rather than split across multiple contractors as some earlier East African issues had been.
A print run just over twelve million is modest for a working denomination. Circulated examples tend to show heavy fold wear along the horizontal center crease, typical of how small-denomination notes were stored and handled in Tanzanian retail trade at the time.
