Cyprus was a British Crown Colony throughout this note's issue period, and the Government of Cyprus — rather than a central bank — served as the direct currency authority, a structure that persisted until independence in 1960. De La Rue printed this series in London, and the notes circulated alongside sterling at a fixed one-to-one parity, the Cyprus pound being subdivided on the shilling-and-piastre system inherited from Ottoman-era practice.
The 1937–1950 date span reflects reissues from a single plate series rather than distinct design changes. Examples dated toward the early end are considerably scarcer, with wartime shipping and distribution disruptions affecting how many reached the island in usable condition.
