Additional information

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by any UN member state, making the Bank of Somaliland an issuing authority with no formal international standing. Its coins circulate domestically and are accepted as de facto currency regardless. The "Empty leaves" designation refers to a die variety distinguishable from the filled-leaf reverse type — a minor but catalogued distinction that affects collector attribution more than it ever affected anyone spending one.
