Jersey's 1942 occupation notes were produced under German authority but deliberately designed to look as Jersey as possible — a quiet act of administrative resistance. The bailiff's administration commissioned Edmund Blampied, one of the island's most celebrated artists, to design the series specifically so the notes would carry a distinctly local character rather than anything resembling Reichsmark-adjacent imagery.
Blampied did the work despite the circumstances, and the plates were printed locally under occupation conditions. The German authorities approved the issue as a practical necessity — Reichsmarks and pound sterling had both become scarce and unwieldy for everyday transactions on the island.
Ereaut signed as treasurer; he held that post through the entire occupation period.
