Guinea's sylis series launched in 1971 replaced the Guinean franc as part of Sékou Touré's broader push to distance the country's institutions from French colonial infrastructure — the syli itself was named after an elephant in Susu, a deliberate rejection of French monetary nomenclature. The Banque Centrale had been established only in 1960 following independence, and these early syli notes were among the first to fully reflect that ideological reorientation.
The printing date of 30 April 1945 almost certainly reflects a plate or archive reference inherited from an earlier design cycle, not the actual production date of this issue.
