Bangladesh's first banknote series, of which P#8 is part, was issued in 1972 — the country had declared independence less than a year earlier, in March 1971, and the Liberation War against Pakistan only ended in December 1971. These early notes were produced under considerable urgency, with the new government needing a functioning currency almost immediately after the conflict ceased.
The 1972 series is notoriously prone to foxing and paper deterioration, a known condition issue across the entire first emission, likely attributable to paper quality constraints during a period of severe economic disruption and limited procurement options.
