| Obverse description | The obverse features the national coat of arms of Vanuatu at centre, depicting a traditionally dressed Melanesian warrior standing before a boar's tusk and two crossed fern fronds, encircled by a decorative ring. A ribbon below the central device bears the national motto legend LONG GOD YUMI STANAP in raised lettering. The legend RIPABLIK BLONG is inscribed along the left and right periphery respectively, with VANUATU appearing along the lower rim in bold raised lettering. Vanuatu's butterfly series from the mid-2000s was issued primarily for the collector market, with the Reserve Bank leveraging the country's biodiversity as a numismatic export. Papilio weymeri, the Weymeri swallowtail, is endemic to the islands and rarely appears on internationally distributed numismatic material. Silver-plated copper-nickel was the workhorse composition for this run — cheaper to produce than solid silver yet visually competitive on the collector shelf.
