Vanuatu's Reserve Bank has issued a series of large-format bimetallic pieces over the past decade primarily targeting the collector and bullion novelty market rather than domestic circulation — the archipelago's everyday economy runs on far smaller denominations. A 155-gram coin has no practical monetary function in Port Vila or anywhere else in the ni-Vanuatu economy.

The tiger has no particular zoological or cultural connection to Vanuatu, which has no native big cat fauna. Its appearance here reflects the export-market logic of collector coinage from small Pacific issuers, where exotic imagery drives sales to overseas buyers.
