Obverse description The State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is positioned at the upper centre, above a vignette of the Taedong Gate — the historic eastern gate of old Pyongyang — rendered in a detailed intaglio style. Decorative guilloche underprint frames the central design, with denomination and issuing authority inscriptions in Korean script arranged around the vignette.
