Obverse description Plain field displaying a large central ring motif in raised relief, representing the numeral zero or a stylized void, flanked by two small raised dots at either side. The Kanji legend 日本國 (Nihon-koku, 'State of Japan') is arranged in the upper field, with 昭和年 (Showa-nen, 'Year of Showa') inscribed in the lower field. The design is enclosed within a plain raised rim, the overall composition being stark and minimalist in character, consistent with a trial or pattern strike intended to test die or planchet specifications.
