100 Bolívares

The P#93 100 Bolívares belongs to the Family series introduced in 2007, a redesign undertaken while Venezuela's petroleum-fueled spending was accelerating inflation past what the existing denomination structure could comfortably handle. Within a decade, the 100 Bolívar note — once a meaningful transaction value — had been rendered essentially worthless by a hyperinflationary collapse that eventually required the government to issue notes a million times its face value.

In December 2016, Maduro's government abruptly demonetized the 100 Bolívar denomination with less than 72 hours' notice, triggering widespread panic and violent unrest in several states before the deadline was quietly extended.
