The Darfur Sultanate coinage program of 2008 was a political provocation as much as a numismatic exercise. Issued by the sultanate under Ali Dinar's claimed successor authority — an entity with no internationally recognized sovereignty and no functioning monetary system — these pieces were produced outside Sudan's official Central Bank framework entirely.
