The UAE Central Bank's first substantive series, launched following the 1980 revision of the Currency Board structure, established De La Rue as the supplier for the full range of denominations. This 100 Dirham note from 1982 belongs to that founding production run — the relationship with De La Rue would continue uninterrupted for decades. The watermark remains the sole mechanical security feature at this denomination, a relatively light specification by later standards but consistent with regional practice at the time.
