100 Dollars

The 100 Dollar denomination was part of the second series issued after Suriname's 2004 monetary reform, which replaced the guilder at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — a redenomination forced by decades of inflation and monetary mismanagement following independence. The new dollar was pegged to the US dollar at introduction, though that arrangement proved short-lived.

Canadian Bank Note Company, which has printed currency for dozens of issuing authorities across the Caribbean and South America, handled the entire series from its Ottawa facility. Security on this issue is relatively modest — watermark and thread only, without the optical features that would appear on later Surinamese issues.
