The Centrale Bank van Suriname shifted to Giesecke & Devrient for this series after years of using other European security printers, a change that coincided with Suriname's broader effort to modernize its currency infrastructure following the painful hyperinflation of the 1990s, when the old Surinamese guilder collapsed and was eventually replaced by the dollar at a rate of 1,000 to one in 2004.

The holographic band on this issue was a deliberate upgrade — counterfeiting pressure on Caribbean and South American high-value notes had increased noticeably through the 2000s.
