Comments

Lavo was a Montreal-based manufacturer of household cleaning products — bleach, soap, ammonia — and this note is a scrip instrument, almost certainly issued for internal use among employees or within a company store arrangement. Quebec industrial scrip of this type was never legal tender and existed entirely at the issuer's discretion, redeemable against wages or goods rather than through any banking mechanism.

The Bouthillier and Goyette signatures suggest mid-century corporate officers, though pinning exact dates to Lavo scrip is difficult — the company operated under various structures across several decades. No Bank of Canada oversight applied to these instruments.
