| 正面描述 | The Armenian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a double-headed eagle bearing a shield quartered with emblems including Mount Ararat and a lion, flanked by an eagle and a lion as supporters. The circular legend in Armenian script reads ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ (Republic of Armenia) around the upper periphery, interrupted by two small ornamental devices at the lower sides. The denomination 100 ԴՐԱՄ (100 Dram) is inscribed in large numerals below the arms, with the date 1997 appearing at the bottom of the field. |

Yeghishe Charents, one of the most celebrated Armenian poets of the 20th century, was arrested during Stalin's Great Purge and died in an NKVD prison in Yerevan in 1937. For decades his work was suppressed across the Soviet Union. This coin was issued sixty years after his death, part of Armenia's broader post-independence effort to rehabilitate and publicly honor figures the Soviet state had deliberately erased.
