| Obverse description | Left-facing helmeted bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, rendered in high relief with flowing hair visible beneath and behind the helmet. The engraver's signature R.JOLY appears in small incuse lettering to the right of the bust. The circular legend RÉPVBLIQVE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper field, with the date 1966 positioned in the lower exergue flanked by two small dots. The rim is bordered by a continuous decorative frieze of incised chevron or diamond motifs evoking Melanesian artistic traditions. |
