The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — the shared central bank of the CFA franc zone's Central African members — periodically issued essais as official pattern strikes for governmental and institutional approval before committing to full production runs. This 1975 nickel essai exists in extremely limited numbers, produced almost certainly in Paris at the Monnaie de Paris, which held the BEAC's minting contracts throughout this period. Whether a corresponding circulation strike was ever authorized for this denomination and year is a separate question the essai itself cannot answer.
