| Obverse description | Three giant eland (Taurotragus derbianus) depicted in left-facing profile, their imposing spiral horns prominently rendered in high relief against a plain field. The animals are shown overlapping, conveying depth and naturalistic movement, with stylized grass indicated beneath them. The engraver's signature G.B.L.BAZOR appears in the right field. The circular legend reads BANQUE CENTRALE at the top and ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE EQUATORIALE around the lower periphery, all within a raised rim. |

The Banque Centrale des Etats de l'Afrique Equatoriale was itself a transitional institution — successor to the Institut d'Émission de l'Afrique Équatoriale Française et du Cameroun, reorganized as the former French Equatorial African territories consolidated their post-independence monetary arrangements under the CFA franc zone. This 1965 pattern was never adopted for circulation; the 100-franc denomination in nickel was ultimately not introduced to the Équatorial African series in this form.
