Beschrijving voorzijde The Romanian state coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a heraldic eagle displayed, its wings spread, supporting an escutcheon quartered with the traditional symbols of the Romanian lands. The eagle holds a cross in its beak and a sword and sceptre in its talons. The arms are flanked at the lower field by two olive branches forming a partial wreath. The legend ROMANIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1996 appears at the base of the field, accompanied by the engraver's initials V.G.

Aanvullende informatie

Piefort strikings — produced at double or greater thickness from standard dies — were used by Romanian state mints primarily for official presentation sets and archival purposes rather than circulation or broad collector release. The 1996 date places this squarely in Romania's post-Ceaușescu transition period, when the national mint was rebuilding institutional credibility and experimenting with limited prestige formats. Copper piefort survivorship is generally low; the alloy was not favored for long-term presentation pieces, making examples that avoided oxidation worth closer scrutiny.
