Additional information

This coin was never actually released into circulation. Produced speculatively in 1945 as Italy navigated the immediate postwar collapse of its monetary system, the bronze-nickel 100 lire was struck in extremely limited numbers and ultimately not adopted — the Allies' AMlire occupation currency and subsequent monetary reforms made a large-denomination base-metal coin politically and economically untenable at that moment. Most known examples are considered presentation or pattern pieces rather than circulating issues.
