| Opmerkingen |
The Thesouro do Estado de S. Paulo issued this note amid one of the most significant political ruptures in Brazilian history. The Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932 pitted São Paulo against the federal government of Getúlio Vargas, and the state treasury issued its own emergency currency to fund a military campaign that lasted nearly three months before São Paulo's surrender in October.
Companhia Melhoramentos — better known as a paper and publishing house, successor to the Weiszflog brothers' operation — was an unusual choice of printer, reflecting wartime improvisation rather than standard banking procurement. The note circulated under genuine duress.
