The denomination numeral 100 appears in large octagonal cartouches to the left and right of the central panel, integrated into the overall geometric underprint design. |

The Thesouro do Estado de S. Paulo issued this note during the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, when São Paulo rose against Getúlio Vargas's federal government following his 1930 coup. Cut off from federal financial channels, the state treasury printed its own emergency currency to pay troops and maintain commerce during the three-month conflict. Companhia Melhoramentos — primarily known as a paper mill and printer of books and school materials — was pressed into service because it was simply available.
The revolution collapsed in October 1932. Most of these notes were withdrawn quickly, and survival rates reflect that short window.
