The 1930 Hungarian 100 Pengő belongs to the first major series issued after the pengő replaced the korona in 1927 — itself a stabilization measure following the catastrophic hyperinflation that had obliterated the postwar Hungarian economy. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank was only established in 1924, and this series was part of its early effort to build credibility for the new currency.
Pick 98 was printed by the Hungarian Banknote Printing Company (Pénzjegynyomda) in Budapest, one of the few central European nations printing its own notes domestically at this stage. The series circulated well into the Second World War period before wartime inflation again eroded the pengő's purchasing power beyond recovery.
