Chile's 100 peso bimetallic was introduced in 1992 as part of a broader coinage reform following the country's economic stabilization after the brutal inflation of the 1970s and 1980s — periods in which the peso had been redenominated and the escudo abandoned entirely. By 2001, the coin had become deeply embedded in everyday commerce, anchored by a stable monetary policy that the Banco Central had maintained with unusual discipline for the region.
The long production run through 2022 reflects that stability rather than stagnation — no redenomination, no emergency issue, no interruption.
