Part of Mexico's long-running "Estados" series commemorating each of the 31 states plus the Federal District, this Yucatán issue was released under a program that ran from 2004 to 2007. The series drew on the precedent of Mexico's earlier silver commemoratives but was notable for pairing .925 silver centres with base-metal rings — a deliberate choice that kept bullion content meaningful without pricing the coins out of circulation channels.
Yucatán was among the final states struck before the program closed.
