The Philippines made its first move into polymer currency with an experimental batch of 50 Piso notes back in 2001, but the program stalled and the country reverted entirely to cotton-blend paper. This 100 Piso note marks the renewed push — decades later — to bring polymer into mainstream circulation, with the BSP's own Security Plant Complex handling production rather than outsourcing to De La Rue or Note Printing Australia as many smaller central banks do.
Remolona replaced Benjamin Diokno as BSP Governor in mid-2023, making his signature here among the earliest to appear on circulating Philippine currency.
