The paper stock itself is worth noting: the 20% abacá content is not incidental. The Philippines is the world's dominant abacá producer, and BSP policy has long specified the fiber's inclusion in its banknote substrate as both a practical measure — abacá adds tensile strength and resistance to folding damage — and a deliberate sourcing decision favoring domestic agricultural output.
The 2005 signature variety carries a misprint that entered circulation: the president's name appears as "ARROVO" rather than "ARROYO," the letter Y rendered as V. Both the error and corrected versions share the same date year, catalogued separately as P194c and P194b respectively. Given that these were produced across two printers — Oberthur in France and the BSP's own Security Plant Complex in Quezon City — establishing which facility produced which variant remains an open question in the literature.
