The 2000-dated 100 Pula was issued at a moment of relative economic confidence for Botswana — diamond revenues had sustained two decades of growth, and the country's foreign exchange reserves were among the healthiest on the continent relative to GDP. The note was printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire at their Chantepie facility, a press with considerable African central bank clientele during this period.
The hologram strip was a notable security addition for the Bank of Botswana at this denomination level, reflecting increased concern about counterfeiting across the region following high-quality forgeries that had targeted neighboring currencies in the late 1990s.
